1981 Kawasaki KZ550 LTD Unregistered US Import Classic Restoration Project
This Tax and MOT exempt 1981 Kawasaki KZ550 LTD has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours.
As you can see this bike has a few parts missing – LH mirror, light toggle on the RH switch gear, side stand and LH fork bush being the most obvious. We also noted that the side stand appears to have torn a hole in the frame as it's been removed, there seems to be some welding attempt but the frame will need work.
The wheels are straight with nice clean alloy. The forks and yokes look straight but the chrome is very lightly pitted. The tail light assy is good as are the headlight and bowl. Instruments and remaining switches look ok. The carburettors are free sliding off the twist grip. The paintwork is slightly faded with a few marks, fuel tank is squeaky clean inside. The seat base is in good condition throughout. The indicators are tidy. The chain guard is tidy. Both mud guards are straight and bright. The standard exhaust is solid.
The engine is cosmetically clean. We have had it firing/running & revving on easystart spray but the fuel system & carbs will need attention.
