Why are some motorbike batteries bigger than others?
The size and number of plates in a battery cell depends greatly on the output of the battery. The more plates in a battery cell, or the larger the plates are, the more current the battery produces resulting in an increased ampage.
How do i check to see if my motorcycle battery is fully charged?
The best way to check the charge of a motorcycle battery is to use a volt meter. A healthy 12v battery should be producing around 12.5v - 13.5v. Once a 12v motorbike battery drops below 12.5v, starting your motorcycle will become increasingly difficult. It is recommended to use an appropriate motorcycle battery charger to top it up. A 6v battery should be producing around 6.5v to 7.2v.
When connecting my motorcycle battery, which terminal to i connect first?
It is recommended that you connect the positive (+) terminal first. Be sure prior to connection that you have no flammable liquids or gases in the vicinity of your motorcycle. The connection process can sometimes cause a few sparks.
The electrolyte levels in my battery are low, can i top them up?
In brief, the answer is yes. Top up your motorcycle battery with distilled water.
I have connected my replacement battery but it keeps loosing charge.
There are a good few reasons why this may happen, these are as follows:
1. If your motorcycle fitted with an Alarm system? If so it may be faulty. If left for long periods of time, the alarm can have a negative drain on the battery resulting in continued loss of charge.
2. Have you connected the battery correctly? Check both of the battery terminals to ensure they are secure.
3. Regulator/Rectifier. The regulator rectifier or Reg Rec can also have a negative drain on your motorcycle battery. The reg rec regulated the flow of electricity from the engine. A simple check who be to start your motorcycle or scooter, turn all of the lights on and rev the machine. If the lights dim then there is a good chance it will require replacing.
How much warranty is supplied with a motorbike battery?
All of our motorcycle batteries come complete with a 12 month warranty.
What happens if i connect my motorcycle battery terminals the wrong way around?
If you are lucky, the worst you will do is blow a fuse. However, it isn't unknown for the CDI or other high end electrical equipment to have blown. Always take your time whilst connecting your battery, it will reduce mistakes and costly bills.
